José is an exellent guide

We enjoyed our visit to Sintra with our knowledgeable and helpful guide José.
He put his whole personality into explaining to us not only the sites but the larger history of Portugal and Lisbon.
We especially found fascinating the Palació National in Sintra.
Hassle-free way to see magical Sintra

Sintra is a very unique and mystical place. It was so much more relaxing and informative with a driver / guide. Ours (Josè) was knowledgeable, courteous, and went above and beyond to treat us to a great day. All tickets paid by the tour operator and included in the price. Check your options carefully for Sintra tours - this one was for a full day, customized to our group’s preferences and timetable, with a private guide, tickets included, and was a very good value. We saw the Moorish castle, Pena, the Town Palace in the center of Sintra (the most historically important), and the Quinta da Regeilera, and couldn’t have done it all without a guide zipping us from place to place. Great day.

From beginning to end this was an amazing experience, made even better by Jose’s enthusiasm, knowledge and infectious energy. Jose arrived early to pick us up and on the way to Sintra he told us about the history of Portugal and Sintra. The tickets for each site were purchased for us in advance so we didn’t have to figure out timing, all we had to do was show up.

Jose led us through each site and provided in depth commentary about what we were seeing and the meaning behind it. He was incredibly knowledgeable and kind and made the experience something to remember for a lifetime. He also took us to a great little local restaurant and when we asked what time we should be done eating by, he had the perfect response of “whenever you’re done, you’re supposed to enjoy not watch the clock.” I cannot recommend Lisbon on Wheels and the Sintra Monument Tour (especially with Jose!) highly enough!
An unforgettable experience with a pleasant and knowledgeable guide

Our tour guide Zé was very well informed, cultured, encouraged us to have a good time, and was very accommodating. He let us set the itinerary and knew how to avoid lines, what to pay attention to, and how to make the most out of our trip. He’s genuinely excited about what he does and speaks fluently in the two of the many languages he speaks that I understand (English and Portuguese). He wants to get to know you and will adapt to your personality. If you want to exchange pleasantries, he’s happy to do so. If you’d like to experience history, he’s well informed. If you’d like to have more in depth conversations, he’s also happy to oblige. You set the direction and pace, and he’ll guide you on your path to an incredibly memorable day. He doesn’t overcrowd and lets you enjoy the monuments independently, while explaining what you need to know.

José advised me and my mom to leave an hour earlier to avoid the lines that form at Pena Palace. After seeing the madness as we left, we appreciated this suggestion. The transport was via a private van and he was able to give us some history throughout the day. He navigated the narrow and crisscrossing streets expertly as we visited 4 monuments getting us as close to the monuments as possible and guiding us to the entrance. All tickets were purchased in advance and we were able to explore at our leisure. We had an authentic Portuguese meal for lunch and stopped for travesseiros before leaving Sintra. We went overtime but Zé didn’t seem to mind, always going above and beyond. He even had other tour guide asking him questions.

We had a lovely time! I couldn’t recommend a better guide for your trip and if I ever need a guide in future, I know who to call.
