Palacio Nacional de Mafra
Built in the 18th century by order of King João V (1689-1750) in fulfilment of a vow he made, to be blessed with an heir from his marriage to Maria Ana of Austria, or be cured of a serious illness, the Royal Convent and Palace of Mafra is the most important baroque monument in Portugal. All in limestone and marble from this region (Pêro Pinheiro and Sintra), the building covers an area of almost four hectares (37.790 m2), including 1.200 rooms, more than 4.700 doors and windows, 156 stairways and 29 inner yards and courtyards. Such magnificence was only possible due to the Brazilian gold that poured into the country, allowing the King to carry out his patronage of the arts and the strengthening of royal authority.

For the Royal Convent of Mafra, the King ordered sculptures and paintings by great Italian and Portuguese masters and all the altar clothes, church vestments and religious gold and silverware were commissioned from France and Italy.

Ericeira Sup
Ericeira is a charming Portuguese fishing town that is situated along a coastline of outstanding surfing beaches. This powerful and reliable surf has transformed peaceful Ericeira into a surfing mecca; boasting both a chilled daytime scene and a lively nightlife, along with excellent accommodation options and top-rated tourist facilities.

Today Ericeira is a perfect fusion of Portuguese heritage with an ultra-cool surfing ambience, where traditional fishermen’s cottages nestle amongst trendy lounge bars and cafes. Ericeira is adored by the Portuguese, who flock to the town in the summer months, drawn by the beautiful beaches and delicious seafood (which the town is renowned for).

The majority of foreign visitors travel to Ericeira for the surf, but during the summer it also becomes a lively and buzzing holiday destination; ideal for young couples and families.

Guided Tour Full Day Mafra, Lisbon
clairejo47, 29-07-2019
We had the fortunate opportunity to have an all day guided tour with Diana Dias. We had her for the whole day. She was informative and knowledgeable on the history of the area. It was a pleasure having her to answer all our questions on each of the places we visited. If we ever visit Lisbon again we would not hesitate in asking for Diana.
Just an all around fun day!
